It is a sad day when your apartment has become so dry that you realize that you have to start moisturizing your nipples.

On Classical Music.
February 1, 2009This is a link to a fantastic piece on classical music I heard on the TED podcast (I can’t seem to imbed the video):

I also recently heard a RadioLab interview with cellist Zoe Keating, a former member of a band called Rasputina (that I was never into), who now has a solo project called “One Cello x 16″. She uses a computer program to record different layers of her cello music and loops them to form what sounds like a concert hall full of delicious cello music. It’s yummy and dark green and deep purple and velvety and makes me tingle all down my back when I hear it. Here’s a video of her playing “Sun Will Set,” my favorite piece right now:
I’ve decided that sinking into a hot bath while listening to cello music might very well be my favorite thing to do of late, in the midst of this ridiculously long and gray winter. I’ve always loved winter, and never understood people who didn’t… but that was also when I lived in the mountains, where the winters tend to be cold, crisp, and snowy, with blues skies and a bite in the air that made me feel all the more alive.
Unfortunately, Richmond winters are more gray and rainy. And though I love this town, I’m so gonna keep soaking in my claw-foot tub nightly, pumping cello music into my ears until spring comes.
