I changed the name of my blog (“Pursuing my Niche” is probably more appropriate anyway), because I was told that “Ez ki en,” is not the correct Hungarian translation of “This is who I am,” as I had thought.

This is what happens when your aunts and uncles use Hungarian as their “secret language” in order to discuss the “gyerekek” (children) without our knowledge.

If anyone knows the correct translation, feel free to share!

Another Diversion

February 6, 2008

If you are a fan of National Public Radio and Public Radio International like myself, you may notice that at the end of most of their programs, they announce that they offer podcasts and/or streaming audio of their programs online! If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. These guys are utilizing the internet in the best way to share a wealth of information with us, and it is amazing. Here are some of my absolute favorites.

All Songs Considered
– if you are an indie-music junkie like myself, this is invaluable. They also occasionally feature live concerts from the 930 Club in D.C.

Fresh Air – Terry Gross is the master of interviews. I want her to interview ME. Not because I have anything important to say, but because I know it would be good conversation! Her interviews are informative, entertaining, always thought-provoking.

Selected Shorts
– in which well-known actors team up with short-story authors for a theatrical reading of their fabulous stories.

To the Best of Our Knowledge – each episode picks a topic and offers several interviews discussing different aspects of the topic. Best part: their website offers a reading list for each episode, so if something piques your interest, you don’t have to stop there.

Studio 360 – centers around the arts and current news, each week picking a subject, and offering an audio menagerie of segments devoted to it.

This American Life – my absolute favorite. Just listen to it–it is amazing.

So yeah, explore, my readers… you will not be disappointed.

Visual Seduction.

Hyde Park at sunset:

Among so many other things here, I have become completely enamoured of these trees:

Silhouetted against an evening sky, they remind me of delicate lace.
